Agency Overview: The Oakland
Asian Cultural Center (OACC) is a community
cultural center established to promote Asian
Pacific American (APA) arts, culture and
heritage. OACC believes that the arts and
cultural heritage are essential to building and
sustaining vibrant, healthy communities. OACC
was founded in 1984 by a coalition of volunteers
who recognized the need for a strong artistic
and cultural force in Oakland Chinatown. Since
opening its own facility in 1996, OACC has
presented countless performances, classes, and
exhibits to promote the understanding of APA
arts and culture, as well as educate the
community about the contribution of APAs to

General
Description: The Executive Director is
responsible for the overall leadership,
direction, and management of the agency’s
resources to accomplish OACC’s vision and goals.
Primary responsibilities include overall
direction of the agency, fundraising, fiscal
management, public relations, and program
operations.
Responsibilities:
•
Fiscal management and fundraising: In
collaboration with the staff and Finance
Committee, develop and present agency budgets
and financial reports to the Board. Work with
the Board of Directors to develop and maintain
income sources for the operation of the agency.
Develop and implement policies to achieve
effective resource allocation and enhance
revenue. Work with the Board of Directors to
develop and oversee fundraising activities,
including soliciting individual donors,
corporations, and foundations.
• Public
and community relations: Promote agency
visibility through participation and membership
in civic organizations and activities; establish
strong, continuing relationships in both the
public and private sectors. Create alliances
with strategic partners in the community in the
best interest of the agency.
• Board
relations: With the Board chair, coordinate the
efforts of Board committees and ensure that all
committees achieve their objectives. Implement
Board policies, program goals and objectives.
Assist the Board in identifying and recruiting
new Board members. Work with the Board to
develop and implement the overall fund
development plan for the agency.

Personnel management: Promote an organizational
culture that fosters strong teamwork, effective
communication, and commitment to the agency
vision. Develop and administer sound personnel
procedures. Oversee recruitment, selection,
training, and evaluations of agency staff.
Implement staff development programs to enhance
skills and abilities to provide for professional
growth.
• Program planning and
management: Develop and oversee programs to
achieve agency goals. Ensure that day-to-day
operations and programs of OACC are effectively
administered. Provide appropriate oversight of
program staff activities, and overall systems
and procedures. Develop and deploy effective
strategies for the overall success of OACC.
Qualifications: The ideal Executive
Director candidate will have:

Commitment to the mission and vision of Oakland
Asian Cultural Center • Significant and
proven leadership skills, including
organizational development, personnel
management, program management • Management
experience in the nonprofit sector • Ability
to foster a healthy organizational culture and
to encourage teamwork and collaboration •
Development, fundraising, and marketing
experience • Exceptional communication
skills, including writing and public speaking
• Strategic planning experience and
analytical skills • Experience in managing a
complex budget • Experience in effectively
developing and working with a non-profit Board
of Directors • A degree in a relevant field;
master’s degree preferred or equivalent
education and experience
